The Communication Workshop
The Communication Workshop, organized by the Faculty of Communication at Izmir University of Economics, is designed as an outreach and engagement program for high school students who are interested in the field of communication. Having become one of the faculty’s traditional events, the program has been organized regularly for many years and serves as a hands-on gathering that brings together students from different schools each year.
The program aims to introduce participants to different disciplines of media production and offers an intensive, two-day practical learning experience. In many ways, the workshop functions as a “mini communication camp,” allowing students to directly experience the creative processes of communication and to become familiar with the university environment.
Within the program, participants attend workshops related to Cinema and Digital Media, New Media and Communication, and Public Relations and Advertising, where they are introduced to the basic production practices of these disciplines. Through hands-on activities conducted under the guidance of academics and field professionals, students experience creative idea development and work in small teams to produce media content.
Students who participate in the workshop:
- Gain basic experience in media production
- Observe practices such as camera work, editing, and presentation
- Learn how the communication industry operates
- Experience the university environment
In previous years, participants had the opportunity to experiment with different forms of media production. Examples of activities include:
- Short film and documentary production
- Camera and editing exercises
- News bulletin preparation
- Radio or television presentation
- Applications focusing on brand communication, target audiences, and communication strategies
The Communication Workshop serves as a meeting point that introduces young people to creative media production and helps them explore potential career paths in communication. The program also allows participants to experience university life and to become familiar with educational opportunities in the field of communication.
